Retired financial professional and veteran Larry Coulombe has been a member of the Bighorn-Desert View board since 2009. He first became interested in the area’s water issues when learning about discussions of possible annexation of the Landers area from San Bernardino County. He began attending water agency meetings regularly, becoming increasingly interested in supporting the local water supply. He ran for an open board position and has served on the Board since.

Born in Maine on a potato farm, Larry was orphaned at age four and raised separately from his three brothers in Catholic orphanages in Rhode Island. Larry credits Saint Aloysius’ Father Guertim and Sister Mark with providing him with a loving and supportive childhood and cultivating his love of sports.

Larry served in the Marine Corps between 1958 and 1962.  Before deployment, Larry completed boot camp and advanced infantry training in Perris Island. As a US Marine, Larry served for four years in Okinawa, Japan.  He bypassed Vietnam upon being called back to the US for more training.  He completed his associate’s degree in accounting at Golden West College in Huntington Beach, California.

Larry worked for a number of different companies over the course of his career in progressively responsible finance positions including cost accountant, auditor and controller and retired as a general contractor.

Larry met his wife, Mary, at the Pomona Fair, after arranging to meet her after seeing her photo in a friend’s yearbook. They have been married for more than 50 years and are active in the community as volunteers with the local thrift store, the Registrar of Voters, Little League, Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts, and water conservation efforts through the Morango Basin Conservation Associations’ Desert-wise Living Series.

As a director of Bighorn-Desert View Water Agency, Larry is most proud of the work of the board in annexing Landers from San Bernardino County previous control and successful development of a new water storage pond.
